Freebirds - Not an A-la-mode, but it's a brownie...

And the Taste Buds Say....
So I know this is not a Brownie a-la-mode, BUT...it's a brownie and this is my blog, so I feel I can bend the rules for some special occasions.  I love Freebirds.  I go there regularly and I love the Freebird burrito on wheat tortilla, with rice, black beans, mixed cheese, chicken (half dark/ half white meat), lettuce, tomatoes, corn and lime juice.... something like that.  At the end of the line is a pretty little basket full of delicious, yummy, Pot Brownies.  So, I thought that I could add it to my blog.  Give it a shout out.

My taste buds say, yum.  The nice thing about these brownies is that they are big and it takes me a long time to eat it.  I usually get it at lunch, so I get to snack on it through the day at work.  I love the fact that these are chewy and have little bits of chocolate chips in them.

Adventure and Memory behind the brownie...

In this particular brownie experience, I was joined with the great company of the one and only Janet S.  I am so blessed to have such a wonderful friend.  This night we went to dinner and then went to see Bradley Cooper on the big screen... I don't remember the movie or the plot or anything about the movie... I just remember Bradley Cooper.  Just kidding.  We went and saw Limitless with Jamie Jackson.  It was a good movie and I truly did enjoy the movie, the plot and everything.  That night Janet and I ended up sitting in the car talking for over an hour.  We of course solved all the problems of the world in our late night talk... so you are all welcome.  :)

Favorite Janet Memories:
Janet and I have been friends since my Freshman year of High School.  I have so many memories, so the ones that come to the top of my head are:

  • Walking to the other campus in HS after early morning seminary... or cramming all of us into the car to get a ride.
  • Camping at Enchanted Rock.  Staying up all night talking.  In the morning, the rest of the people at Enchanted Rock were very very very upset with us.
  • Sleepover with young women church group.  We all snuck out and went to TP someone's house. "In the Jungle the Mighty Jungle...." was the song that was on the radio on our victory ride back.
  • Janet telling her story of falling at  college.... Janet telling any story at that!
  • Trip out to Arizona to visit Janet.  Went to an ABBA cover band... holy hanna!  Funny stuff!
  • And how could I not list our amazing experience when Janet flew in and we went to NKOTB concert!  One of the happiest days of my life!  I wouldn't want to share it with anyone other than Janet!
  • And many many more!  I could make my own blog all about Janet!
My favorite qualities about Janet:  Her kindness, seriously the nicest person you will ever meet.  She is so giving.  Her laugh!  I love it when you get her going... which some of the times, it's Janet that gets herself going!  :)  Her inappropriateness!  Yes, I love this about Janet.  I love that I can be real around her and don't have to hide things... I love that when you say something, you can see it in Janet's eyes that she is thinking about something different and making what you are saying ten times funnier!

Zio's - "There's a Reason it's Not on the Menu"

And the Taste Buds Say....

It looks better then it really taste.  Not that great... it was ok.  The server said that it was a brownie with ice cream, whip cream, a raspberry sauce and a cherry.... that's sounds yummy enough, so I get it.  As I'm eating it, I did not like the sauce.  I kept thinking, "This wouldn't be that bad, if it wasn't for the sauce."  Then as we got to the bottom, there was a STRAWBERRY!  Yuck!  No wonder I didn't like it.  I don't like strawberries.  So, for someone that does like strawberries, it may not be that bad.  The brownie was a little dry.

They actually do not have this on the menu.  This is what they give for their birthday congrats.  You have to ask for it.... but my suggestion...don't.  Stick with the stuff they are good at... the chicken and cheese tortellini.  YUMMY!

ADVENTURE and MEMORY behind the brownie...

This was during a lunch with my friend Ben.  We work close to each other, so we have the opportunity to get together for lunch often.  This time we went to Zio's.  It was right after my birthday and so I asked the server if they had a brownie a-la-mode and he said they sort of did.  It's the one they do for birthdays.... PERFECT, it was just my birthday.  When he brought it out I thought it looked pretty good, but then I started eating it and thought the sauce wasn't good.  The mother and daughter across the aisle from us was eyeing my dessert and said, "What is that?"  I said, "It looks better than it taste."  I don't think they got it.
Poor Ben has to put up with my silly ideas.  His hand is featured in one of the pictures.  Thanks for humoring me Ben.

BJ's - "Shouldn't have to work this hard to get this Goodness in ME!"

And the taste buds say.....

March 4, 2011 - Presentation of the brownie... amazing!  My eyes were in heaven when this goodness was placed before me.  Tons of whip cream, chocolate drizzled across the top, with some melted ice cream- signifying a nice warm chewy brownie below all these calories!   Making everyone calorie worth it!

But...did the presentation really match up to the taste of the brownie?  Actually, yes.  It was really good.  One bad thing about this brownie though is that it took way to much effort to eat.  The brownie is baked into the pan, so I had to literally use two hand to scrap that goodness out of the pan and into my very impatient mouth.  I should not have to work that hard to get that goodness in me.

Even though the mound of whip cream was amazing to the eye, it was a little too much for the mouth.  It almost over powered the actual brownie.

Over all review... Yummy, yummy yummy - just very hard to eat.

ADVENTURE and MEMORY behind this brownie...

This evening my friend Rebecca and I were celebrating her birthday!  We are both in our 30's and for her birthday she wanted to go see...Justin Bieber!  So we went to see Never Say Never!  Yes, it's true.  We did.  And not only did we see the movie, we loved the movie.  It took us back to our NKOTB days....which, by the way, girls screaming after a cute artist is nothing new people... can we say NKOTB, Elvis... the BEATLES for heavens sake... they made it out to be some new phenomenon in the movie.  Back to the story....the movie was actually really inspiring.  I have to say, I'm impressed by the Bieber and think I caught Beiber Fever.

After the movie we walked over to BJ's to watch the end of the Spurs game, eat some yummy food, chat, catch up, solve the problems of the world and eat... a brownie a-la-mode.  This is the night Rebecca suggested I start a blog about all my wonderful brownies!  It's only taken me four months to make it happen!  :)  Thanks for the inspiration Rebecca!

What the brownie?

Why a blog about brownies?  Because I LOVE brownies!  Brownies are my favorite.  I am a brownie consumer.  One year for my birthday I received 6 different dozens of brownies.  My birthday "cake' is offten...you got it... a brownie.

So what is this blog all about?  I started doing a lot of traveling for work lately and several trips are to the same place, so I thought, "How and I going to make this exciting?  What can I do to make it fun to go back to these places?"  One day when I was in Memphis it hit me... I am going to find the best brownie a-la-mode.  So there it began.  I was at dinner at Rendezcous sucking on my last finger to get the last drop of amazing sauce from my dry rub ribs, when I asked my incredibly cute server, "Do you all have a brownie a-la-mode?"  "No we don't, but I can tell you where you can get an amazing one...."  My flight was leaving in 1.5 hours, so I didn't have time to find that "amazing one", so instead I settled for one that was close.  Should not have settled.  At that point I realized, I need to find that brownie... and... I should let people know that this one I was eating was NOT worth stopping for... so here I am in my quest to share with the world, or who ever reads my little part of my world, what I think is the best brownie a-la-mode.

A week later, I was celebrate my friend Rebecca's birthday and of course needed to order a brownie a-la-mode.  As I was talking about the brownie and that I was going to start taking pictures of my brownies, Rebecca said, "You need to start a blog about this...." and that's when the blog idea began.  Thank you Rebecca for starting this madness!

Where it All Began - at Huey's in Memphis

And the taste buds said.....

Not worth stopping for, but good enough....
I thought the brownie was a little dry.  It wasn't warm, so the ice cream didn't even slightly melt, which made it like two separate desserts.  It was good if you wanted to get the taste of a brownie, but nothing I would come back to again.

Huey's burgers are yummy and delicious, but brownie a-la-mode, not that great.
